Although situated in the heart of prime residential land, the basements had been left empty for many years. Harrison Preservation were called in to rectify the substantial damage that had resulted from damp penetration through ceilings and walls. Click any of the pictures on this page for enlargement. |

On day one we dug a trench to collect the water penetrating through the walls. This would ultimately form the first stage of the final drainage system. This resulted in a 2” stream and also revealed large salt deposits where the walls and stud work had rotted. The staircase was also ruined & had to be completely replaced. |

The picture left shows the original kitchen fireplace and Aga cooker which, along with everything else removable, had to be taken out before we could start to install the cavity membrane. |

The picture right shows the cavity membrane system installed within the vaulted ceiling area. We fix the ‘egg-box’ style membrane to the masonry using tanalised batons and specially designed waterproof plugs. |

On the left we see the sump and twin pump which only activates in the failure of Pump 1. An electronic control panel monitors any activation of Pump 2 and automatically sets of an alarm. More sophisticated systems now use cameras connected to the Internet for live monitoring. |

This last picture shows the vaulted ceilings again, this time with their finished coat. We did tidy up the cabling and admix bags in case you’re wondering. The systems been in for some twelve years now and is still working royally. |
